UoM Categories

UoM Categories in Qualis ERP lets you group units of measure by what they measure, such as Length, Weight, Volume or Time, so the system knows which units can convert to each other. It is the rule that stops anyone from converting kilograms into meters by mistake: units only ever convert inside their own category. Each category has a name, an optional description, an automatic code such as UOMC-00001 and an Active switch that retires it without deleting it. Inside a category, one reference unit is the base that every other unit is measured against. The categories screen shows one card per category with its unit count and reference unit, so a category that still lacks a reference stands out before anyone tries to convert with it. Opening a card lists every unit with its symbol, type and ratio, and a converter turns any value into the reference unit. Every change is kept in the version history with before and after values, and can be restored. Removed categories go to a trash where they can be restored or permanently deleted, and moving one to trash does not delete its units. Administrators rarely start from zero: each new organization receives a set of common categories, from Length, Weight and Area to Temperature, Pressure, Torque, Energy and Flow Rate. They create a new category when the business measures something the defaults do not cover, such as electric charge, then add its units. Categories are the foundation of Units of Measure, which holds the units themselves and their conversion ratios. Those units then flow into products, orders, stock and manufacturing across Qualis.
