Units of Measure

Units of Measure in Qualis ERP lets small and mid-sized manufacturers define every unit they buy, make, store and sell in, from meters and kilograms to pieces and dozens, and the conversion ratios between them. It prevents the classic error of receiving a purchase in boxes and counting it in stock as single pieces. Units live inside a category such as Length, Weight or Volume, and only convert to units in the same category. Each category has exactly one reference unit with a ratio of 1. Every other unit is typed as Bigger or Smaller and carries a ratio expressing how many reference units it equals: a kilometer is 1,000, a centimeter is 0.01. While you type a ratio, a live preview reads it back in plain words, for example 1 Nautical Mile = 1,852 Meter, so you can catch a ratio entered the wrong way round. The category page lists units from largest to smallest with a built-in converter, and each unit page converts a quantity into every other unit of its category at once. Each unit gets an automatic code, a symbol and an Active status. A unit still used on a product or an order cannot be deleted, and every change is kept in the version history. Product and purchasing teams mostly browse and adjust, because new organizations start with a full set of common categories and units. They add a unit when a supplier sells in a measure you have not used yet. Units of measure are used across Products Management, Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Inventory Levels, BOM & Routing, Manufacturing Orders, Scrap Orders and Invoicing. Their categories are managed in UoM Categories.
